Travel law

Agreeing services clearly.
Resolving disruption systematically.

A journey or stay involves different contracting parties. We advise travellers, travel providers, accommodation businesses and institutions on bookings, contract terms and the consequences of service disruptions.

Discuss your matter

Booking. Delivery. Responsibility.

YOUR MATTER

Personal expectations.
Contractual responsibility.

Travellers are concerned with a booked service and the consequences of disruption. Providers and organisers must structure contracts, processes and responsibilities. For group activities, the organising institution's role is also relevant. We clarify who owes which service.

Travellers & guests

We examine bookings, departures from agreed services and possible claims following cancellation or non-performance. Organisers, agents, accommodation providers and carriers are distinguished as potential contracting parties. The next steps depend on your specific booking.

Businesses & operators

We assist travel providers and accommodation businesses with booking terms and contractual disputes. We address cancellation, liability and cooperation with partners. When claims arise, we assess and represent your business’s position.

Institutions & organisers

We assist institutions with contractual arrangements for group travel. We clarify bookings, participation and responsibilities, distinguishing their own services from those commissioned from external travel providers.

OUR SERVICES

From booking
to resolving matters afterwards.

A package holiday, an individual flight and a hotel stay are subject to different rules. We first identify the type of contract, then assess performance, disruption and the correct party against whom any claim should be brought.

Package travel and travel contracts

Clearly identifying the type of contract and services.

We advise travellers on booked services, contract changes and legal questions before departure. We assist organisers and agents with structuring their respective contractual relationships. We examine the offer, booking and roles of those involved. Package travel, linked travel arrangements and individually booked services are classified separately before rights and obligations are determined.

Travel defects and cancellations

Understanding the discrepancy, response and consequences.

We help travellers assess claims for price reduction, refunds and possible compensation. We advise providers on responding to complaints and assessing claims made against them. The agreed service, actual events, notification of defects and remedial action are documented. The extent and cause of impairment are assessed specifically; general compensation percentages cannot replace this assessment.

Air passenger rights and flight cancellations

Assessing the consequences of disruption separately.

We assist air passengers with cancellations, delays and denied boarding. We advise businesses on the legal handling of such events. We establish the flight connection, booking, communications and actual course of events. Refunds, rerouting, care and possible compensation have different requirements. We take account of the applicable law, flight date and the role of the operating carrier.

Hotels and accommodation

Making binding arrangements for the stay and its terms.

We assist guests with booking questions, discrepancies and cancellation. We advise accommodation providers on contractual terms, the scope of services and cooperation with agents. We review the confirmation, price and agreed rules. Individual bookings are distinguished from services within a package holiday; refunds and outstanding payment are assessed from the respective contractual position.

Camping and other types of stay

Coordinating use, duration and services.

We advise camping guests and users on pitch and stay agreements. We help operators with terms, rules of use and disputes over charges or termination. We consider the duration, purpose and services actually promised. Short stays and longer-term use are legally assessed; specific rules depend on the particular contractual and usage arrangements.

WORKING TOGETHER

From your concern
to your next decision.

We first clarify the booking, contracting parties and actual events. This enables a focused assessment of possible claims and each party's responsibility.

  1. Assessing the booking and event

We identify the contract type, parties and sequence of events. Travel dates, deadlines and urgent action are considered first.

  2. Reviewing documents and claims

We examine service descriptions, communications and evidence. We agree on possible claims or objections, further evidence and costs.

  3. Supporting arrangements and representation

We draft terms, negotiate a solution or assert the agreed legal position. The other parties' responses inform the next steps.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Initial
Guidance.

An initial guide to common questions. Your legal position, the documents and the facts determine the assessment of your individual case.

Legal information: 1 November 2026

Should a travel defect only be reported after returning home?

For a package holiday, a travel defect must be reported to the organiser without delay. If notification is culpably omitted and this prevents a remedy, certain rights may be lost. The timing, recipient and content of the notification are therefore also important to the assessment.

Is cancellation before a package holiday always free of charge?

Travellers may withdraw before departure; however, the organiser can generally claim reasonable compensation. Whether an exception applies or a flat-rate charge is appropriate depends on the requirements and the specific contract. Withdrawal and its financial consequences are assessed separately.

Does every cancelled flight automatically entitle passengers to compensation?

Not every cancellation gives rise to a compensation payment. The scope of the rules, notice given, alternatives offered and extraordinary circumstances may be relevant. Possible rights to a refund, rerouting and care are separate matters. We assess the applicable rules and the specific flight.

Who is the right point of contact: the agent or the organiser?

This depends on the contractual structure and the specific issue. A booking platform, travel agent, organiser and individual service provider may have different responsibilities. We examine the booking documents and determine to whom each concern should be addressed.

Do you also advise travel and accommodation providers?

Yes. We assist with drafting contracts and legally handling disruption or claims from the perspective of the business concerned. Guests and providers are advised under separate engagements following a check for potential conflicts of interest.

Can you assist with group trips organised by schools or institutions?

We examine bookings, participation agreements and the role of the organising institution. In-house activities and the engagement of external providers are distinguished. Supervision, liability and information needs are legally assessed in light of the specific project.

Which evidence helps with additional costs?

Keep invoices, payment records and communications from the providers involved. Record the reason, timing and alternatives offered. Whether expenses are recoverable is then assessed according to the type of contract, legal basis and actual events.
